Hidden Surveillance Camera
Benefits of A Hidden Surveillance Camera
Business owners expect top performance from their employees. However, one cannot take for granted human nature. At some point, an employer has to be absent from the business either because of sickness or other professional matters. As the old saying goes, “When the cat is away, the mouse comes out to play.” If you are a business owner and want to keep your eyes on your employees, you need to install a hidden surveillance camera.
Before doing so, you first need to read up on laws regarding this. Laws may differ per state so make sure that you know yours. There has been a case filed against an employer who caught with a hidden surveillance camera his employee smoking an illegal substance during his break. Because this employer failed to obtain permission from a law-giving establishment, he lost the case even if what his employee has done is clearly illegal.
Since the practice of placing hidden surveillance cameras in the workplace is a relatively new one, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) requires employers who are thinking of doing this to first have an agreement with his employees’ union before installing the devices. They are, however, not privy to the exact locations of the cameras.
Now, after taking care of the legal matters, you have to choose suitable models for the places you want to put them in. You also need to consider the distance between the hidden surveillance camera and the main computer system that will store the recordings.
If the place you want to survey is relatively dark, a black and white camera is the best choice. There are ones that can record in total darkness, too, but probably in night vision. For a well-lit place, there are cameras available that record videos in full color. Most of these can only capture videos but there are also ones that get both video and audio.
If the camera locations and the pertinent computer system space are too far apart that connecting them with wires could lead to their discovery, then opt for wireless devices. These transmit the feed to the computer for storage and playback. To eliminate changing tapes several times a day, get wireless DVR cameras. The transmissions get stored in a hard disk for instant and future viewing.
If you want hidden surveillance cameras that can blend with the surroundings, get one that’s embedded in a wall clock. There is lots of ordinary office equipment with cameras to choose from. These include:
Speakers for computer
Desk lamp
Smoke detector
Emergency light
Tower electric fan
These gadgets can either be wired or wireless and/or stand-alone. A stand-alone hidden surveillance camera stores its recordings in its internal memory in the form of a memory card. They are powered by rechargeable batteries and have USB connectors that can be plugged into a computer to view the videos. Stand-alones are not recommended for lengthy recordings because of the short battery life. They, however, can be used when you do rounds and check on the employees and so you’ll be able to record whatever you catch them doing.
